Cleaners in Pershore
Pershore is one of the best-preserved Georgian towns in Worcestershire, and cleaning it means dealing with sash windows, high ceilings and generous proportions. Our patch takes in the town itself and the WR10 villages spread around it.
Pershore grew up around its abbey and its market, and the eighteenth century was very good to it. Broad Street and the High Street are lined with Georgian frontages, and behind those doors you get everything that comes with them: tall sashes with slim glazing bars, deep window seats, plaster cornices, wide staircases and rooms with a lot more ceiling than a modern house.
Cleaning those properties well is more about care than force. Sashes have to be worked in sections and dried without soaking the timber. Original boards and flagstones want the right amount of water and not a drop more. Cornicing and picture rails need reaching safely rather than quietly ignoring. Non-toxic products are the sensible choice in a house where the paintwork may well be older than everyone in it.
Out of town, Pershore is Vale of Evesham country. The plum orchards that gave the world the Pershore Yellow Egg are still part of the local identity and still celebrated every August at the Plum Festival, and the surrounding villages — Wyre Piddle, Pinvin, Drakes Broughton, Birlingham, the Combertons — mix old cottages with converted farm buildings and newer closes. Working properties bring in mud, dust and boots, and that lands first on hallways, utility rooms and carpets.
One local quirk worth knowing: Pershore's railway station is not in Pershore. It sits out at Pinvin on the Cotswold Line, a mile and a half from the town centre, which leaves a lot of households car-dependent and away during the day. A key-safe and a fixed weekly or fortnightly slot solves that neatly, and it is how much of our regular work runs.
Sash windows and old glass
Old glass is thinner, the panes are smaller and the glazing bars trap grime along every single edge. A Georgian window takes noticeably longer than a modern unit of the same size, so when you ask for a quote it genuinely helps to say how many windows you want included.
The Avon is close
Pershore sits on a bend of the Avon with the meadows on its doorstep, and low-lying properties near the bridge and the wetland know exactly what a wet winter looks like. Ground-floor hard flooring and hall carpets take the worst of it, and both are things that can usually be brought back rather than replaced.
